Piggy

Visited today during a ride on the bike to Mooresville, NC, on the recommendation of Bob. That, my friends, was some mighty fine swine.

Food Cruise

The Wife and I have decided that to make better use of our motorcycles, we'll start looking for small, independent bar and grill/cafe places to eat. Number one, where we live is really, really flat. Which means there's not much of a reason for roads to twist and turn. So, once we're out of town, everything is pretty much straight, with the occasional stop sign. Riding for the joy of scenery is pretty much a no-go. Secondly, riding to the same three food franchises gets boring fast. So, we will now seek out heart disease in new and exciting places.

Tonight, that was Tank's Bar and Grill. A small hole-in-the-wall bar on a dying main street. But it was full, as the local farming population was coming in for beer and ribs. And the ribs are worth it; a foot-long rack of falling off the bone, smothered in BBQ sauce, delicious pig. Not usually liking ribs (too many fat-filled, leathery meat experiences), I'd ordered the grilled sixteen inch taco. Which was fine, in a "meh" sort of way. Basically, the Old Milwaukee beer I chose for the hell of it (memories of high school keggers past) was entirely appropriate for the taco. Not that great, but better than nothing. The ribs though; I'm going to steal The Wife's leftovers and figure out what beer goes with them. It's going to take a lot of ribs, I'm thinking.

Does This Mean I'm Getting Shorted On My Hotdog Contents?

Dear God, what would one put this in as an ingredient? And what possesses a (non-reanimated) person to say "I would like to eat the thinky parts of the critter!"?

Just One More Wafer Thin Mint......

There's a reason why you can find a higher percentage of fat people on the hospital staff than the general population. Odd (if any) times for meals, picking what's available immediately, eating late at home after a double shift, and above all, having obscene amounts of starch/refined sugar/fat laden foods at hand. Today, in a department staffed with eight people, the following was sitting behind our nursing desk: cinnamon rolls, meat & cheese tray, assorted chocolates, a 12 x 18 inch roasting pan of home made cookies/sweets/sugar-coated stuff, and four different types of cheesecake. At the rate we're going, I expect to find a hog on a spit back there by Monday.

Suprise Day Off

Went into work for a 0700 meeting today, and was told that I could head home when it was done. So now I have a window to try to sell my old beater Jeep, get my dog's ear checked, register my new Jeep, clean my M1891 Mosin-Nagant, lube up some cast .45 bullets, read/respond to two weeks worth of email and finish painting, fitting, and nailing up trim in my upstairs bathroom.

But first, coffee with chicory. I was first exposed to chicory during x-ray school at Fort Sam Houston, TX in the early '90s. I loved that stuff, but wasn't able to find something similar once I was sent up to Ft Lost In The Woods, MO. Sometime later I ran across French Market coffee at a HyVee store. Now it's the only coffee I drink at home, although I'll drink day old gas station coffee away from home it that's what's available. I like mine black, and light shouldn't be able to see more than 1/4 inch below the surface of the coffee. Four mugs of that, then I start on the chores.
