Sunday Hunting: A Cultural Difference Discovered
I didn't know there were any states that didn't have Sunday hunting. This chance catch of a bit of news probably just saved me from wondering where everybody is right before an unpleasant conversation with the local version of the DNR next year (no time for hunting this year, and having one's hunting tools in another state doesn't help either).
The interview with a local pastor had him give a short speech on why there shouldn't be hunting on Sunday which can be condensed down to "you should be in church, it's a day of worship".
If you need to legislate hunting out of the picture to get men in your church, I suggest you look to your skills as a religious leader.
As for non-religious me, the firing range is my church, and I'm willing to bet money that a fair number of devout Christian hunters feel closer to God in the woods than seated in a pew.
Guess I'll be polishing the handgun skills on Sundays next fall.

"Infidel"

An interesting article from military.com asking why so many US troops embrace the label.
Here's why: the other side has used the term for centuries to describe us as "the other". We accept it, because "the other" is the side of dignity, individual worth, and honor far more often than not.
They, on the other hand, believe in enslavement, conformity, and degradation.
I've picked my side.

Another Outbreak of Tolerance
Another fine member of the Religion of Peace demonstrating love and tolerance for those who offend him.
Some personal perspective; although I'm an atheist, I don't, and will not, attempt to insult people who have different beliefs. Until their beliefs interfere with my personal liberty, it's none of my business. Secondly, many with different beliefs who attempt to live those beliefs, make society a better place for all of us through charity, good works, and concern for their neighbors. Last, I don't like being preached to about how wrong I am, and I'm confident I'm not alone in that.
In this case, the complainants managed to break all of those standards. It was obviously offensive, although in a juvenile manner that reminds me of the OWS protests by young people with little life experience, or older individuals with arrested development. At a personal level, idiots like these leave me reluctant to say much of anything about my beliefs, as I think most people these days equate "atheist" with "obnoxious ass".
All that said, the main problem is this: an individual felt it appropriate to assault another for a difference of opinion, and a member of our legal system has place the practice of his currently practiced religion above the law:
"Then what you have done is you have completely trashed their essence, their being. They find it very very very offensive. I'm a Muslim, I find it offensive. But you have that right, but you're way outside your boundaries or first amendment rights."
This is just a taste of what's coming in the future as individual liberty is sacrificed on the altar of societal harmony as seen by the left. Islam and socialism/communism share the trait of complete intolerance for dissent. Both are making inroads into American society that would have been incomprehensible a mere twenty years ago. And it seems to be acceptable to the majority of the population, as long as there are funds for cable tv and fast food.
Give it five to ten more years, and we'll be seeing Afghanistan-style Koran riots here.

9 Years

It's hard to believe that much time has gone by already. I'm serving with troops on this deployment who were ten years old when the September 11th attacks took place. In one sense, it's inspiring to see that our nation has the will to drive on for this long. Unfortunately, there's still too many, even within the services, that don't understand why this will be be on ongoing war, at some level, until Islam experiences a Reformation of its own, or western civilization dies of apathy and self-indulgence. I know which one I'm aiming for.

Hijab Hijinks
There's a dispute going on in Minnesota currently on a proposed change to the driver's license process; it's been proposed that headgear not be allowed in the photos. The police were the driving force behind this, primarily due to gang members using it make it more difficult to identify them. Granted, unless the gang member looks like this:
or this:

a simple hat probably won't make a huge difference. But, the previously shown headgear (what one would call the item in image two, I have no idea.........) does hide unique features that are useful in identification: ears. If you don't think ears provide significant identifications properties, then you've never seen Mr. Spock, H. Ross Perot, or B.H. Obama.
Can anyone really say these ears aren't unique? :

I think not.
But, some of the local Somali-Americans (Somalicans?) feel it's an infringement upon their religious practices to remove the hijab for the purposes of identification. And I agree with them, it is an infringement. Much like it's an infringement of my religious beliefs when I have to swear that I will faithfully something something something, so help me God. But guess what. You Don't Have A Right To A Driver's License. Nor are you required to have a drivers license or drive. So I suggest that if you wish to have your dolshe and eat it too, you're out of luck.
Like it or lump it.

Dammit, Stop Thinking For Yourselves!

'Faith schools must stop selecting pupils according to religious background'.
Next up, parents must stop acting like adults to promote unity with hormonally driven urge community.
I suspect certain portions of the populace will be exempt from being accepting or tolerant of other religions if this goes through, since they have a tendency to blow things up if they're "insulted".

I'm not. Two different middle-eastern countries in five years, and here's what I've noticed.
There's a lot of poverty and ignorance. Guess what. Peasants aren't big on peace, love, and understanding. They are big on getting even, grabbing what they can for themselves, resentment, hate, bigotry, and intolerance.
Respect, tolerance, and diversity? Excuse me while I laugh myself sick. When you don't have jack shit except religion, and the religion tells you to hate everybody not in it, that's OK to beat the shit out of your wife/wives, animals, and kids, and it's your duty to lie, cheat, and steal from anybody not like you, you don't tend to be a liberal humanist.
Does that mean I think we should pump money into the local economy to "spread the wealth around" to quiet all this anger and social discontent?
Hell NO!
You won't have any prosperity until the local system of racial, ethnic, and cultural hatred they call a religion is gone. The only places on the planet with a high standard of living and Islam in the same area are spots that have a natural resource AND the technically advanced foreigners to develop it. I long for the day when oil is gone; those of us who know what actual science is will find something else; certain other parts of the world will recommence raiding each other for women and dates (the kind you eat, and not the women) to make a living.
Bah. There's too many optimistic idiots in the world.

THIS Needs To Happen More Often

Three Islamists sentenced to death for the Bali bombings which killed 202 people were executed by firing squad at midnight Saturday (1700 GMT).
This is long overdue. This is something that should be done Every Single Time there is a religiously motivated murder in the United States. Since this seems to be largely (99%) confined to one particular religion, it shouldn't be much of a problem for anybody else.
Although a slow pull upwards via rope and telephone pole would be preferable as a personal measure.

Just A Little Thought....

for those who think cultural diversity is a United Colors of Benetton commercial. The wellspring of the Religion of Peace has one of it's employees speak about career satisfaction.
And that thought of mine? While some of you might think we're all the same once you get past the different clothes and languages, I don't. And neither do they.

So That's Their Idea of a Hero
On April 22, 1979, Kuntar's terror cell reached the shore of Nahariya in a rubber dinghy; they shot at a police car and killed an Israeli police officer. At midnight they broke into the Haran family home, and abducted the father, Danny, and his four-year-old daughter, Einat. The mother, Smadar, the two-year-old daughter Yael, and a neighbor hid in a bedroom crawlspace.
The terrorists took the hostages towards the shore and, when they encountered law enforcement officers and IDF soldiers, Samir Kuntar shot Danny Haran at close range and cold-bloodedly slaughtered Einat by bashing her skull against a rock with the butt of his rifle. In the hiding place at the Haran home, baby Yael suffocated to death from her mother’s attempts to keep her quiet so the terrorists would not find them. The local CNN channel is showing live feeds from the big Hezbollah celebration in Lebanon. Celebrating men who's highest achievement was murdering unarmed civilians, including a four year old girl. How many generations of inbreeding does it take to sink to this level of degeneration?

Samir Kuntar, Child Murderer and Hero of Hezbollah
ApparentlyIsrael tortured the hell out this bastard by overfeeding him on high cholesterol foods, by looking at him on the stage. He still has the glazed sociopath/zealot look of his image above, but with extra chins. Very sharp in his brand-new Hezbollah fatigues, taking in the cheering masses in Beirut.
Now we have the head of of Hezbollah ranting on TV about their victory over Zionism, the new strategy they'll be pursuing, and the return of the moldering corpses of their 199 "martyrs" to the cause of slaughtering Jews over the years. The crowd is ecstatic. I'm wishing there was a way to drop a daisy-cutter in the middle of the square.![]()
Hezbollah head sociopath Nasrallah & anonymous friend
I sincerely look forward to reading about these two having an explosive accident in the future. Hopefully it will be an extended, painful experience for them both.

No Guns, No Violence....

....or not.
JERUSALEM - A Palestinian man plowed an enormous construction vehicle into cars, buses and pedestrians on a busy street Wednesday, killing at least three people and wounding at least 45 before he was shot dead by an off-duty soldier.
I honestly don't know whether to regard it as good or ill, but a massive portion of Americans seem to be unable to comprehend that murder is a matter of motivation, rather than means. I have at hand around my desk this moment, at least ten devices not intended to harm anyone that will do the job just fine, although inelegantly. I see very little, if anything, that would stop a determined attack against me without incurring a high risk of injury to me.
And for the alleged lady with a pistol who responded first: Good for you, and practice your anti-armor drills. Two in the torso and a third in the thinker, and you probably won't have that problem of a temporary stop.

The Difference In The Dead

is in the culture of those doing the killing. As far as I can tell, most of the Palestinian non-combatants killed by the Israelis are due to their being in the immediate area of armed people who are, have, or will soon be doing their best to indiscriminately kill some Israelis. On the other hand, the majority of Israeli civilian casualties tend to be where there are few if any military personnel. And as far as I can recall, I don't remember seeing any scenes of streets full of Israeli's firing guns to celebrate when their forces have caused casualties to unarmed Palestinians.
Keep holding on to the hate guys; it's really helped you out this far.

I'm Sure Everything Will Be Fine....

A campus faculty leader said some professors in Berkeley's mechanical engineering department -- which would provide consultation to the Saudi school -- had "huge" concerns about the agreement, particularly about academic freedom and gender and religious discrimination.
Come on, guys, have a little faith; it's not like they're a bunch of Republicans.
But it remains to be seen whether women and others will indeed be allowed to be equal partners in the new venture. The New York Times reported in October that Israelis would not be allowed to collaborate with KAUST.
Oops, spoke too soon.
When you have a host country that practices this
and a university that tolerates, if not encourages, that (NSFW)why wouldn't they be able to sort those minor cultural differences out just fine? Everybody appreciates diversity and tolerance (except those redneck, backwoods, neo-fascist American right-wingers).

Is Anyone Actually Surprised By This?

I'm somewhat suprised it took this long. In a nation that's currently the most pro-jihad area outside Saudi, I thought she'd be dead in less than a week after getting off the plane. I don't expect to see another female head of state in Pakistan in my lifetime. More photos over at Free Market Fairy Tales.

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone had as pleasant a Christmas as I've had. Lots of positive family interaction, way too much food, the better part of a Sam Adam's winter sampler twelve-pack, cards from friends & family, and some very thoughtful gifts. Which, speaking of cards, apparently some people are offended when Christmas cards mention the Christian faith. So upset they feel the need to bring it up on their nationally televised
What happened to all that love and understanding for everyone that comes with being a dedicated multi-culturist? Gotta love that insightful, well-reasoned statement: "Don't you think it's interesting the President of all the people is sending out a religious Christmas card?" I'm really looking forward to the outrage when she gets an Easter card mentioning the Resurrection. "Can you believe this? What's the President doing dragging religion into a celebration of the Easter Bunny?"
(disclosure note: I'm personally an atheist, albeit one who bases his ethical practices on my Protestant roots, and apparently appreciates the role of Christianity in Western culture more than a number of people who are nominally Christians. And given my choice, I prefer Christians; they've overwhelmingly moved past killing people for different beliefs a long time ago, and most of the atheists I've met seem to be sour, left-leaning individuals.)
Hat tip to MsUnderestimated.
