I just inadvertently learned from the Charlotte Television News that there is a bill to allow hunting on Sunday.
I didn't know there were any states that didn't have Sunday hunting. This chance catch of a bit of news probably just saved me from wondering where everybody is right before an unpleasant conversation with the local version of the DNR next year (no time for hunting this year, and having one's hunting tools in another state doesn't help either).
The interview with a local pastor had him give a short speech on why there shouldn't be hunting on Sunday which can be condensed down to "you should be in church, it's a day of worship".
If you need to legislate hunting out of the picture to get men in your church, I suggest you look to your skills as a religious leader.
As for non-religious me, the firing range is my church, and I'm willing to bet money that a fair number of devout Christian hunters feel closer to God in the woods than seated in a pew.
Guess I'll be polishing the handgun skills on Sundays next fall.

DNC Not Paying Debt?

Shocking!
A long time ago, an academic advisor told me that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. Given that, no one should be surprised by this.

SOPA.
Just one more step on our march into a Police State.
Civil disobedience.
One of the actions free individuals take when confronted with statist ass-hattery.

The president (my god, how that title has been demeaned) asked the Iranian government/theocracy to return our drone.
Asked.
When you lose a valuable material asset to a hostile nation, you don't ask. You act.
That's why we have cruise missiles, you ass!
Would anyone care to join me in commissioning a bust of Neville Chamberlain for the POTUS's Christmas present this year?

Really?

Yeah. Your kids will be fine, because you're the kind of behind-the-scenes, double-dealing, backstabbing, lying, self-serving, amoral piece of shit you constantly say you're fighting against.
Fuck.
You.

Welcome to the Office
Ok, since I’m back around internet (almost as good as dial up), we’ll do a little catching up on all things medical REMF. Starting with medical facilities. One of the things a lot of young troops or those deployed for the first find surprising is the level of care available here. As in, this isn’t your family doctor’s office. We can handle trauma quite well enough to get someone to a surgical facility as needed; we’ve some of the finest airlift capacity in the world.
But:
If you need labs or x-ray, you’re going to do some traveling. Either across post, or across country, depending on your location. Need an MRI? You’re going out of the country, or not getting one. Manage diabetes? Goodbye Afghanistan, hello Germany, and get ready to be a civilian again. And privacy, here, means we’ll try to not let anyone walk into the cubicle while your pants are around your ankles to the best of our ability.
So what does your typical REMF medic see on an average day? As most would anticipate, there's lots of sports, training, and work-related injuries such as sprains, strains, cuts, and bruises. And given our environment, plenty of stomach and bowel complaints. Then there's the stuff that's less pleasant: the warts (in lots of places, some of them not so enjoyable to work around), fungal infections, hemmerhoids, scabies, and just plain poor hygiene related problems.
Makes me appreciate how outstanding our normal healthcare standards are at home; I hope it makes the same impression on our younger troops who’ve never been exposed to anything else.

Well, Duh.......

Everyone knows thugs prefer weapons over three feet long with a top-loading packet clip system.

A Glimpse Into The Future

So two people were arrested in Minneapolis for randomly attacking people while videotaping themselves, all in the name of........entertaining themselves. The video showed young males taking turns pushing people off bicycles, pushing down a jogger, and pushing young children. In one case, the victim fought back and punched the attacker. Before most of the assaults, the attacker looked into the camera and said "Watch this."
Remind you of anywhere else? It does me; it reminds me of what I've been reading out of England for years now. Where it's easy to assault people, since most won't fight back, as they might be sued, charged, or jailed for injuring the person attacking them.
I realize most people don't believe this any more, but the biggest reason this kind of behavior happens is that young males don't have a serious fear of having the shit kicked out of them. There used to be a time when, if you were accosted, you or your escort were expected to smack idiots upside the head for this kind of behavior, and people thought there was something wrong with you (as in, you're a coward) if you let it pass. Now victims are expected to quietly report this to the proper authorities, who will properly investigate it, and properly permit you to testify, when they feel the time is right.
It's an excellent method raising bumper crops of modern savages, who will in turn have virtually limitless opportunities to amuse their selves upon the rest of the populace.

Frustration............

is dropping over a hundred dollars to get a laptop working again, only to have it crash the exact same way, twice, in less than seven minutes, the following day. Somebody will have an unhappy customer on Monday morning.
Problems found and "fixed" on Thursday: McAfee corrupted. Java corrupted. Computer stuck in self-repair loop. Computer also stuck in constant attempt to hibernate. I'm seriously considering having the tech obliterate everything on the drive and reinstall from my original discs. If that doesn't work, it will probably be time for a new computer, which sucks, given that this one is all of 5 months old.

I'm Not OCD.....I'm Just Dedicated

After the wife has had to steam-clean an area of our living room at least three times, plus paying a professional service enough money to buy some nice boxes of premium pistol ammo, I had to practice serious restraint not to strangle at least one dog tonight, having been left a steaming gift behind the couch tonight. While I was in the house, and the dog door was open for use. Funny, the dogs didn't have any problem finding the dog door a few seconds after I found that steaming pile of turd.
But, being the benificent tyrant of house canids that I am, I refrained from going out in the yard and converting the one I'm pretty sure did it (how, you may ask, out of three dogs, could I know? A lot of time in the yard with a scoop, that's how) into a some kind of leather product. Instead, I merely converted an old webcam into a dog poop surveillance system behind my couch.
Truly, I am a genius...or a freak, depending if you go by The Wife's expression upon seeing my accomplishment. At least now, through the power of B.F. Skinner's behavioral principles, I'll know which dog to brainwash until I get this:

All Things Sharp & Rusty

Ninety minutes spent scrubbing down and greasing bayonets and scabbards tonight. While the floods of last summer didn't damage our house, they certainly increased the humidity in areas that are normally dry. One bayonet wouldn't have any rust on it, and the one next to it looked like it had been left outside for a year. Agh.
Bulk axle grease in the can; it's your friend!

And You're Doing This Why?

This kind of stuff reminds me of the aftermath of Katrina. And, it's my state, thus my National Guard, practicing this.
Searching for illegal weapons dealers is a job for the police, not the military. And if it's for practice in Iraq, then it can be practiced on a military post in an appropriately simulated area, not in American homes.
This stuff is wrong, and I wouldn't, won't, and never will participate in searching American homes for privately owned weapons as a military member.

Newsweek: Dropping Acid or Just Brainwashed?

Obama, The Unifier
"Like Reagan, the 44th president has the potential to be a truly transformational figure."
Good Lord. Is this man serious, or is he just looking for a reach around from someone higher up?
Reagan was the president when I was in high school. As I recall, his philosophy was that government should be reduced, foreign enemies treated as such, being an American was something to be proud of, personal arms wouldn't drive individuals into homicidal psychoses through proximity, look to your own efforts for financial gain, and traditional values are worthy of being honored.
Now, if past personal history guides us, we may look forward to exponential governmental expansion and spending, requesting to address nations who fund terrorism directed at us, Americans are parochial bullies holding the rest of the world down, arms are only desired by mentally-ill malcontents, it's better for everybody if the people who actually work "give" some of the money to the perpetually unfortunate, and the Constitution needs some serious work because it's not reflective of a "more perfect state".
As far as unity goes, it's nice in theory. So's communism, but I've no desire to live under it here in reality. I see a whole of "-ists" coming into common use soon for those who don't go along to get along, such as obstructionist, fascist, capitalist, and of course, racist.
This is going to be a long four years of Change and Hope we'll all be blessed with.

Just Keeps Getting Better

Tuesday morning, mandatory urinalysis testing with me being the meatgazer, enforcer of all that is good and honest about peeing into a cup without cheating;
Wednesday, the chow hall strikes again, resulting in more time spent in the latrine than the radiology area;
Thursday, get informed out of the blue that I have information related to a court-martial, and need to it turned in immediately, followed by an order for x-rays at the same moment I'm packing up to leave for training down south, resulting in being unable to get money for the trip, resulting in being effectively broke as the ATM machine at South Camp that I find out about upon arriving, and the local network will not recognize my laptop, needed for online classes, no matter what I do, and IT support won't be back until I'm back on the plane up north.
Tomorrow I have to swim in the ocean. I'm really hoping the current run of luck stops before that.
