I just inadvertently learned from the Charlotte Television News that there is a bill to allow hunting on Sunday.
I didn't know there were any states that didn't have Sunday hunting. This chance catch of a bit of news probably just saved me from wondering where everybody is right before an unpleasant conversation with the local version of the DNR next year (no time for hunting this year, and having one's hunting tools in another state doesn't help either).
The interview with a local pastor had him give a short speech on why there shouldn't be hunting on Sunday which can be condensed down to "you should be in church, it's a day of worship".
If you need to legislate hunting out of the picture to get men in your church, I suggest you look to your skills as a religious leader.
As for non-religious me, the firing range is my church, and I'm willing to bet money that a fair number of devout Christian hunters feel closer to God in the woods than seated in a pew.
Guess I'll be polishing the handgun skills on Sundays next fall.

DNC Not Paying Debt?

Shocking!
A long time ago, an academic advisor told me that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. Given that, no one should be surprised by this.

Ugly Gun Sunday
Whatever works......
In an hour, I'll be going out with a neighbor to shoot one those guns made of pure evil (One of my rifles. How I've managed to be surrounded by guns yet not succumb the unholy waves of bloodthirstiness they emit is a mystery on par with Magic Johnson still being alive).
I've sent my opinion on ownership in to Congress (for what it's worth, given the Republican party has apparently decided to become a rubber-stamp assembly). I'll have to see if he's sent anything in. Might as well go through the motions, although it seems we're well down the road to the Mexican model of government: lots of government, crappy services, personal favoritism, and financial corruption.
If I could bug out for Wyoming circa 1880 I'd be outta here.

Yeah, I'm Done Listening
I've had all of the debate I can take, and I'm switching it off. I loathe Obama. The mere sound of him speaking sickens me. And that's when he's not actively lying. I'd even vote for John McCain compared to Obama, and I think John McCain is a self-centered, egotistical, pompous old hack who hasn't done anything worthwhile since 1975. Romney isn't my ideal candidate, but he's way ahead of the ass occupying the White House currently, and he's probably not overly enamored with trying to turn the US into a giant version of Venezuela.
I can't believe we've sunk so low.

Well Now.........Isn't This Interesting?

I'm personally familiar with a coworker who had a family member die from a blow to the head by another's fist. I'm familiar with at least two cases in the past year where individuals have died subsequent to being hit in the head with a fist. A punch to the head that knocks an individual down, followed by slamming someone's head into the ground (sidewalk?) repeatedly, would meet my definition of a high-likelihood of lethality assault.
The fact that there are witnesses corroborating this enhances the probability that the version is accurate, which is important. The most important thing here is that the law is upheld, regardless of participant skin shade. Justice is supposed to be blind so that it is impartial. Which is wildly different from the concept of justice held by those participating in "hoodie marches".
If a large numbers of people are angry, marching, and sloganeering, there's probably some engineering going on behind it.

"Infidel"

An interesting article from military.com asking why so many US troops embrace the label.
Here's why: the other side has used the term for centuries to describe us as "the other". We accept it, because "the other" is the side of dignity, individual worth, and honor far more often than not.
They, on the other hand, believe in enslavement, conformity, and degradation.
I've picked my side.

Guerrilla Political Ads

As I was reading this article, which has the purpose of highlighting President
Maybe it has something to do with the party's full-time organization being highly centralized, bureaucratic, and isolated from people that live in paycheck-to-paycheck America.
If I had more time and skills, I'd run with that article's suggestions and cobble together some videos using one of the software packages available on most laptops anymore. Cobble together some footage from the last three years, put it on YouTube, and start shopping it to the party staff that have a serious drive to put some hurt on Obama. The adds would probably be more effective than anything the eventual candidate will come up with, as well as coming from people that would actually care, rather than some PR flack who's just in it for the money.

That's A Fine Idea, Maverick

Senator John McCain urges air strikes on Syria.
Yes, that will serve our national interests. Because we all know that the insurgents there are freedom-loving, tolerant, pro-feminist, religiously diverse patriots who just want to enjoy the benefits of democracy. Like Afghanistan.
And of course, Syria is just a third-world primitive nation. It's not as though there's anyone supporting their military with current technology anti-aircraft missiles and guidance systems. Like Russia.
And even if some of our aircrews were shot down, I'm sure they would have nothing to fear, as Syria is populated with people who both love Americans and are deeply committed to high standards of conduct in handling prisoners. We needn't worry prisoners might be transferred somewhere out of reach, for years at a time, in horrible conditions while being abused. Because that doesn't happen to pilots in undeclared wars.
And best of all, if we do this, we know we'll gain respect and love from the Muslim world. Because there's nothing they appreciate more than a helping hand from the American military.
Here's my plan: let the Islamists and Fascists kill each other. Because there is no good outcome for the US. None. Both sides hate us, but would gladly use us to defeat their opponents. And then rapidly turn on us once their gains were consolidated.
Perhaps when they're done, it will take them a few decades before they can threaten their neighbors again.

How's That Apology Working Out?

If, according to the president, we need to apologize to Muslims because we must accept that they have such an innate, extraordinary ardor for their religion that barbaric reactions to trivial slights are inevitable, then they should not be invited to enter a civilized country. At the very least, our immigration laws should exclude entry from Muslim-majority countries unless and until those countries expressly repeal repressive sharia laws (e.g., the death penalty for apostates) and adopt American standards of non-discrimination against, tolerance of, and protection for religious minorities.
If I could only write half so well about what I believe. There's nothing to be gained there anymore. Let them sink back into their paradise of hate, revenge, and brutishness. Our people are far too valuable to risk them for those who loathe us.

That'll Learn You to Protect Yourself

Five to one odds, multiple warnings, and on the phone with 911 dispatch when he fired a shot after the thugs retreated, then reattempted to close with him from two directions at once.
For this, he was jailed, evicted, fired, and defamed. Oh, and acquitted.
That's what happens when the masses get uppity about thinking they're allowed to protect their selves.
A tip of the hat to An NC Gun Blog; I'd try to know what's happening locally, but I'm unwilling to pay for a rag that thinks cornfield communism is the road to utopia.

It's Good To Be The Queen

50K in flimsy clothing?
You know what else is $50,000? The US median household income.
Remember folks, we have to crack down on that unjust income distribution. Starting with underpaid underwear executives.

Watch the SOTU Address?

I think not.
I don't think I can sit through an hour plus of self-congratulations, lies, and socialist blueprints for a "socially just" economy that only leads to more equality in poverty for most us.
I'll vote for a road-killed possum if that's my only alternative to four more years of an American Great Leap Forward.

Go Team RINO

So Romney has been endorsed by John McCain. The man who pretty much convinced the nation that a young, inexperienced, smooth prompter-reading, telegenic empty vessel was the answer to all our problems.
I've loathed McCain as a venal, self-serving political hack who would sacrifice anything, especially his constituents, in pursuit of power and exposure. Viet Nam was a long time ago, and what he's done since then has pretty much invalidated his admirable acts. But Mitt seems happy with him. RINOs of a feather hang together, or some such dreck.
After Carter, we got Reagan. This time Obama looks to be followed by Obama Lite.

It's Caucus Night!

Which means we won't have to answer the phone thirty times an evening starting tomorrow.
I care about politics. But at this point, I'm sick of it. The fix is in for Romney (I'm for/against/for/against/for/against........), Ron Paul (It's our fault Iran hates us!) supporters are embarrassing the hell out of me as an Iowan, and my guy probably won't make the top three because he's not a great speaker in debates. That last one is important, because as we've all seen the last three years, the ability to speak eloquently (even with a teleprompter) for the masses is directly correlated to outstanding leadership ability.
There has to be a better way to winnow down candidates than this.

Nice
This kind of response to "have you stopped beating your wife?" questions needs to happen more often. In fact, Gov. Perry could have improved on his response by asking the reporter what he will do about the anonymous Politico staff allegations of deliberately fabricating untrue stories.

Political Logic
Senator Harkin (Democrat/Cornfield Communist) says the Republicans, in holding out for approval of a new oil pipeline crossing the Dakotas before voting for an extension of the payroll tax extension, are attempting to cause the economy to become bad enough for it to negatively affect the Obama's re-election effort.
Which part of building and maintaining an international, multi-state energy delivery system is it that will hurt his image? The increased jobs? Increased tax revenue? Lower cost petroleum products?
Perhaps it's because the pipeline will cross through areas with low taxes, low union participation, and high expectations of creating value from natural resources instead of simply declaring them off-limits to the peasants who will simply sully their pristine, sublime undeveloped state.
Both of them would be better suited to Venezuela. They love job-destroying demagogues down there.
