Payback's A Bitch

This morning there were some healthy booms off to the north, just forceful enough to rattle the windows a little bit. Continuing my tradition of sleeping through explosions and gunfire, I completely missed the big one at 0430 hours, only to find out it woke half the company up. I did get to hear the one at 0630 while checking out the news on Gaza, in which the European branch of CNN is working overtime to present Israel as blood-thirsty genocidal maniacs held back from the final solution of ridding Gaza of Arabs due to the UN's tireless efforts. Favorite news anchors questions this morning: "Don't you think this response is disproportionate?" and "Certainly there must be a compromise you can reach with Hamas" directed to the Israeli spokeswoman. The answers "No" and "You can't compromise with terrorists" didn't seem to make the talking head very happy.

Here's my suggestion for a "proportionate" response: every time some asshat doing a verbal allahu akhbar loop launches a rocket towards the biggest cluster of Israelis at hand, the Israeli army gives a 2 hour warning, and drops the biggest building near where it was launched. Eventually that's going to be huts made of goat shit and rock, but that's not much of step downward at this point.

It'll never be over until one religion or the other is utterly in charge, and only one of them is dedicated to eradicating the majority of the other, so have at it. If you're going to sling dog shit into your neighbor's yard on a daily basis, don't bitch when you wake up to a dump truck load of pig's guts being dropped in yours some time down the road.

Sunday Ugly Gun

The New Ruger® Charger™
Long-range small game and target shooting has always been a challenge for .22 rimfire shooters (especially if someone has disappeared their buttstock, and the sandbags, shooting bench, and truck have scared away everything close enough to hit with a .22lr). Now the new Ruger 22 Charger™ provides a rock-steady platform for those challenging shots (conveniently flat, stable, adequately elevated surface and ability to ignore glaringly ugly stock not included).

I've never minded laminates on the whole, in that they do provide quite a benefit to accuracy thanks to warp reduction; but I do draw the line when they're the same color and pattern as a pair of polyester pants I had as a kid back in the '70s.

Back To Work

Whoopee. I'm sick of this place. I don't care if there's three feet of snow at home, it's incomparably better than the desert/garbage dump I'm living in now.

I May Be Middle-Aged....

but I can still hump my half of a 250 lb Fijian heart attack patient on a folding litter into a running Blackhawk helicopter at 0200 hours in the morning when I have to.

Ugly Gun Sunday

Someone put a lot of time, effort, and money into this Beretta Model 92. Too much of all that on someone's hands, but no taste apparently.

Ugly Gun Sunday

I'm just waiting for the guy who has a HeIIo Kitty AK to come out after this with the assertion his pink rifle is much of a reliable ass kicker than this one.....

Just Keeps Getting Better

Tuesday morning, mandatory urinalysis testing with me being the meatgazer, enforcer of all that is good and honest about peeing into a cup without cheating;

Wednesday, the chow hall strikes again, resulting in more time spent in the latrine than the radiology area;

Thursday, get informed out of the blue that I have information related to a court-martial, and need to it turned in immediately, followed by an order for x-rays at the same moment I'm packing up to leave for training down south, resulting in being unable to get money for the trip, resulting in being effectively broke as the ATM machine at South Camp that I find out about upon arriving, and the local network will not recognize my laptop, needed for online classes, no matter what I do, and IT support won't be back until I'm back on the plane up north.

Tomorrow I have to swim in the ocean. I'm really hoping the current run of luck stops before that.
