Ugly Gun Sunday

Long before there were freakish mega-destructive video game weapons, there was the Colt Defender Mark I.

.

A design that was finalized in 1967,the gun had eight 12 inch barrels were joined together around a central axis. Overall length was 17.75 inches with a weight of 8.6 pounds. The weapon was fabricated with an aluminum alloy receiver with steel inserts covered in an epoxy paint finish. But, there was little military interest, and attempts at civilian sales we unsuccessful.

That might be different today. I have a feeling there's a lot of young men who would buy one of these if they were featured in some of the major First Person Shooter games.

Don't believe so, but it should have been!

What, somebody thought it a good idea to beef up the pepperbox to shotgun size?!?

My wrists hurt just looking at it.

Mattexian;

It's to Gatling guns as AR-15s are to M-16s. Now if it was just chain-fed.........

DirtCrashr,

I wondered about that. Most shotguns weigh less than the 8.6 lbs noted; between that and the weight of loaded rounds, and relatively low round velocity, it might be tolerable. But without using the detachable stock, I can see where the wrists would take a battering. I wouldn't mind getting a chance to find out, it there are any left floating around somewhere.

If I could find one, I'd own one.

cmblake6,

it does have a certain mass-destruction sort of appeal.

It looks like a top-break, I wonder if you can fire all of 'em at once?
Yow!! :-)

DC,

If so, then I definitely want one.
