A Little Quality Time

The Wife and I pack up Saturday to head to North Carolina, starting a new phase in our lives. While we've both traveled, we've live in Iowa for most of our lives. Saturday is the midpoint, we hope, of months of stress, chaos, and confusion. After that, it's supposed to get easier. We hope.

But for now, a short break in packing, to drink 30 year old Jim Beam and listen to some Guy Clark recorded in concert. If you haven't heard of him, give his album Songs and Stories a listen. Fine country/folk/bluegrass. Which we hope to find more of in North Carolina.

I can think of a couple of festivals that feature that sort of music: Merlefest, named after the late Merle Watson (Doc Watson's son) in North Wilkesboro, and the Autumn Leaves Festival at Mt. Airy (AKA "Mayberry") Asheville and points west is where the Bluegrass is heard. Doc Watson still plays occasionally around the area, along with PBS-famed musician David Holt - - see David's webpage for concert dates.

Drop me an email sometime if you want suggestions for day trips or even a blogmeet.

Good luck on your move; let us know how it is going when you get a chance.

Bob, sounds promising, and I'm definitely open to day trips once things are settled. Life is too short to pass on good music.

I'm am confident that unfortunately interesting things will happen. Last time it was four new tires and brakes..........

Good luck on your next chapter and I hope you arrived without much incident.

I've driven to Charlotte a couple of times and it's a beautiful drive through the mountains. I'm told several of the highways along the mountains are ideal for bike riding.

We just attended Merlefest. Incredible, and that just a one day excursion on Sunday. I'll be hitting that again.
