Is it some kind of flare gun?
I'm kinda hoping it's a 12guage pistol. Doesn't that sound like a good idea? ;)

It is indeed a flare gun, although an unusual looking one.
Montana, if it were in 12 gauge, I'd be in line to buy it too.
