A long time ago, an academic advisor told me that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. Given that, no one should be surprised by this.

 that must seem utterly irrational to a large segment of the population Which is disappointing. I thought the outcome rather appropriate.

 My comments on the matter:

1) If someone has forcibly entered my house, they've established their disregard for the law in breaking and entering. 

2) If someone has no regard for the law regarding breaking and entering, I must consider for my family's sake that there may be no regard for the law in respect to battery, assault, or homicide. 

3) My life and the lives of others have value to me; I will not risk them on behalf of someone who has displayed malicious intent, and has chosen to place himself at risk for illegal and unethical gain at a cost to me and mine. 

4) Some people are malicious, and no amount of hand-wringing and happy thoughts changes the fact that there will always be individuals who regard other people as things to be used and thrown away. I have no regrets when these people come to a bad end, as it's a lesser evil compared to what they would go on to do to others if not stopped.

One has to wonder, what kind of dysfunctional mental process is going on where a family doesn't really mind one of their own being a chancre on society's body, but has idea that they should confront the individuals who were wronged? These are the type of people that you definitely don't want to be near when civil order isn't being actively enforced.

Yeah, I'm Done Listening

I've had all of the debate I can take, and I'm switching it off. I loathe Obama. The mere sound of him speaking sickens me. And that's when he's not actively lying. I'd even vote for John McCain compared  to Obama, and I think John McCain is a self-centered, egotistical, pompous old hack who hasn't done anything worthwhile since 1975. Romney isn't my ideal candidate, but he's way ahead of the ass occupying the White House currently, and he's probably not overly enamored with trying to turn the US into a giant version of Venezuela.

I can't believe we've sunk so low.

 Few things are quite as aggravating as having a bundle of documents returned from the Great Hall of Administration, due to the documents "unacceptable appearance.......these are going to the head of the Administrative Region you know!", when it is those same functionaries who used white-out over 50% of a document in an improper and incorrect attempt to alter who should be signing the document. Oh, and the having to retype those same areas, on the same document, because two-thirds of the needed signatures were already there.

Leaving unanswered one major underlying question: why, in this age of electronic documents, do I have to physically run packets of documents from building to building for signatures like it's 1935?

That's A Fine Idea, Maverick

Senator John McCain urges air strikes on Syria.

Yes, that will serve our national interests. Because we all know that the insurgents there are freedom-loving, tolerant, pro-feminist, religiously diverse patriots who just want to enjoy the benefits of democracy. Like Afghanistan.

And of course, Syria is just a third-world primitive nation. It's not as though there's anyone supporting their military with current technology anti-aircraft missiles and guidance systems. Like Russia.

And even if some of our aircrews were shot down, I'm sure they would have nothing to fear, as Syria is populated with people who both love Americans and are deeply committed to high standards of conduct in handling prisoners. We needn't worry prisoners might be transferred somewhere out of reach, for years at a time, in horrible conditions while being abused. Because that doesn't happen to pilots in undeclared wars.

And best of all, if we do this, we know we'll gain respect and love from the Muslim world. Because there's nothing they appreciate more than a helping hand from the American military.

Here's my plan: let the Islamists and Fascists kill each other. Because there is no good outcome for the US. None. Both sides hate us, but would gladly use us to defeat their opponents. And then rapidly turn on us once their gains were consolidated.

Perhaps when they're done, it will take them a few decades before they can threaten their neighbors again.

Another Outbreak of Tolerance

Another fine member of the Religion of Peace demonstrating love and tolerance for those who offend him.

Some personal perspective; although I'm an atheist, I don't, and will not, attempt to insult people who have different beliefs. Until their beliefs interfere with my personal liberty, it's none of my business. Secondly, many with different beliefs who attempt to live those beliefs, make society a better place for all of us through charity, good works, and concern for their neighbors. Last, I don't like being preached to about how wrong I am, and I'm confident I'm not alone in that.

In this case, the complainants managed to break all of those standards. It was obviously offensive, although in a juvenile manner that reminds me of the OWS protests by young people with little life experience, or older individuals with arrested development. At a personal level, idiots like these leave me reluctant to say much of anything about my beliefs, as I think most people these days equate "atheist" with "obnoxious ass".

All that said, the main problem is this: an individual felt it appropriate to assault another for a difference of opinion, and a member of our legal system has place the practice of his currently practiced religion above the law:

"Then what you have done is you have completely trashed their essence, their being. They find it very very very offensive. I'm a Muslim, I find it offensive. But you have that right, but you're way outside your boundaries or first amendment rights."

This is just a taste of what's coming in the future as individual liberty is sacrificed on the altar of societal harmony as seen by the left. Islam and socialism/communism share the trait of complete intolerance for dissent. Both are making inroads into American society that would have been incomprehensible a mere twenty years ago. And it seems to be acceptable to the majority of the population, as long as there are funds for cable tv and fast food.

Give it five to ten more years, and we'll be seeing Afghanistan-style Koran riots here.

That'll Learn You to Protect Yourself

Five to one odds, multiple warnings, and on the phone with 911 dispatch when he fired a shot after the thugs retreated, then reattempted to close with him from two directions at once.

For this, he was jailed, evicted, fired, and defamed. Oh, and acquitted.

That's what happens when the masses get uppity about thinking they're allowed to protect their selves.

You've Got Future In Politics, Kid

Congratulations, leftists. I think your years of infiltrating the American education system are bearing fruit:

Let me says this now: it sucks that the young lady died. I wish she'd been able to get up from that accident, brush herself off, and think about what went wrong. It didn't happen that way, and now everyone else must pay.

A bit of advice, kids. Bad decisions by one individual doesn't mean the rest of us are willing to have others make our decisions. There's far too much of that already. And if you want to make an effective argument about how laws will uniformly result in compliance, I suggest you look at your social circle. I'm willing to bet cash there's a fair number of your peers smoking weed, drinking underage, not wearing seat belts, shoplifting, and sampling prescribed meds that aren't theirs. Because I was a teenager, as well as working 20+ years in hospitals and the military. I've seen how law oriented kids are.

Laws motivate those who are afraid of punishment, and there's a fair number of you that don't seem to respond to that. If you want people to wear helmets, I suggest you try persuasion. But that's harder, isn't it. Because people still have a choice, no matter how wrong you think they are. But in the spirit of reciprocity, here's a suggestion. How about we ban all teenagers from operating personal motor vehicles? Or any wheeled transportation device? That should make things safer, and since you can't think for yourselves, you don't really need any input on it, do you?

Armchair Physicians

Medicine has no guarantees when it comes to improvement. Many procedures will improve most patient's health, but not all. More often, procedures will improve the patients condition compared to when the patient originally presented, but not to the patient's, or patient's family, satisfaction.

Why? Because the sheer complexity of the human body, and it's interaction with the environment, surpass current capability to identify all factors that cause or aggravate illness. That's why you can have a technically successful procedure, and still have an outcome that isn't completely successful.

So, should you have a family member who has had a stent (not a "stench"; we don't place stenches, although I've worked with a few people who've brought their own with them) placed in artery, your family member may come back needing more work in that same area at a later date. Because some people build plaque in their arteries no matter what they do or take for meds. Thus, implying that the doctor who worked on it the first time is incompetent isn't helpful. In other words, saying "fix it right this time" tends to make staff think that the individual speaking is an ignorant ass unable to appreciate that their relative would likely have had only one foot at this point, if it weren't for the first repair we did.

As an aside, we did fix it right. Again. And that patient will be back with the same problem. Because there's only one cure for aging, and things have to get pretty bad before most people are willing to experience it.

This kind of response to "have you stopped beating your wife?" questions needs to happen more often. In fact, Gov. Perry could have improved on his response by asking the reporter what he will do about the anonymous Politico staff allegations of deliberately fabricating untrue stories.

Political Logic

Senator Harkin (Democrat/Cornfield Communist) says the Republicans, in holding out for approval of a new oil pipeline crossing the Dakotas before voting for an extension of the payroll tax extension, are attempting to cause the economy to become bad enough for it to negatively affect the Obama's re-election effort.

Which part of building and maintaining an international, multi-state energy delivery system is it that will hurt his image? The increased jobs? Increased tax revenue? Lower cost petroleum products?

Perhaps it's because the pipeline will cross through areas with low taxes, low union participation, and high expectations of creating value from natural resources instead of simply declaring them off-limits to the peasants who will simply sully their pristine, sublime undeveloped state.

Both of them would be better suited to Venezuela. They love job-destroying demagogues down there.

Get Off My Lawn

What the hell is it with young men looking like jobless, illiterate, dumpster-diving shitbags the last several years? Even on commercials for clothing, phones, and food, the "protagonist" of the commercial looks like they haven't held a job in years, or washed, shaved, or changed their clothes in the last several weeks. Is this what women in their twenties find attractive now? It's like a combination of the worst aspects of hippies from the '60s and slackers from the '70s.

I hope all their children are the future's version of Reagan Conservatives.

The World-Wide Constitution

Apparently the Constitution applies to everyone, not just U.S. citizens. Reading "Alabama immigration battle recalls civil rights past" written by Phillip Rawls of the Associated Press, individuals who have intentionally entered this country illegally are equivalent to to black citizens who were denied their constitutional rights in the past. And the evil Republican/Conservative/Capitalist hordes are attempting to deny the children of those individuals their "constitutional right to go to school".

It must be nice to live an a world where there's no economic or cultural consequences to idiocy.

Legalize Duelling

One of my fundamental beliefs is that American culture began a long slide away from courtesy and responsibility in the '60s, as self-indulgent children of a hardworking generation rejected everything previous generations held valuable: morality, ethics, courtesy, hygiene...........

Bringing us to the present, where mouthbreathers like the one pictured above feel free to engage in these behaviors. There was a time when spitting on a man, let alone his daughter, was cause for a least a crippling beatdown. Now, if law enforcement is available to catch what has become a relatively minor crime, one gets some jail time (more street cred) and community service (detention for adults). Somehow, I doubt this will seriously dissuade the jackass in question from future idiocy. But several smacks to skull with a stout (think brass handle) walking stick would probably cause learning to take place, much as shock collars educate adolescent dogs. Which brings me to a thought I've had for a while now.

The problem with violence in America isn't that there is violence per se; the problem is that violence isn't being administered to those who have earned it.

I'm confident Helen will in turn demand that all individuals of Middle Eastern extraction residing in the United States "go home" in her next video. And all the white oppressors. And the black people. And all Mexicans/Central Americans with any Spanish ancestry. Because she's fair that way.
