Indeed -- hence, Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (S.M.L.E.) -- known affectionately by British troops who carried it as the "smelly." I have the "Jungle Carbine" version, which is somewhat shortened and lightened, but the one shown is a bit ridiculous. The muzzle blast must be fearful.
Fun fact: The Lee-Enfield action was invented by an American, James Paris Lee. In it, Lee originated the column-feeding detachable box magazine which remains standard today.
