Cast Bullets and Enfields
A Savage No.4 Mk I, being fed 190 grain cast bullets, with gas checks and a diameter of .314. Powder charge was 30.9 grains of Winchester 760.
At 100 yards, with five shot groups I had a frequent pattern of 3 round inside 3 inches, and two round within 3 inches, with a gap of about 6-8 inches between the two.
I have a feeling I'll need to look at the bedding on this rifle. Perhaps a touch of Brownell's Acraglas.......

Are these the same .314 diameter cast bullets Firehand was blogging about a few days ago?
Try corking the barrel first. I think it was Carteach Or Ole Painless who wrote that up.
AM,
I'm not sure what mold he was using; my Lee mold is supposed to drop a 185-grain bullet of .312 diameter using the old Lyman #2 alloy if IIRC. I'm using lead from an old junked x-ray machine without alloy, and the diameter is coming out at .314 when dropped. No taping of the mold.
Greylocke,
The old Canadian Enfield manual notes the rifle can be bedded at the midpoint of the stock or near the muzzle; which are was suggested?
I was leaning towards mid-stock to avoid vertical stringing.
Thanks fr oreminding me (albeit I'm a latecomer) that I need tog get my two Ishapore's out and sighted-in, a Colonial-Era .303 and a 7.62NATO...
