It's less a profession thing than it is an ethnic thing. Mexicans have customized guns in such fashion for decades, and it pre-dates drug kingpins.

Must be one of the those conspicuous display of wealth mindsets. Certainly doesn't have anything to do with aesthetics.
So drug kingpins sample their wares. who knew? And besides, we're talking about a country from which came the coca plant! Are we really surprised?
